And we pray in godliness ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Dear God, thank You for Your Word and for every good thing You’ve put in my life. Your Word in Luke 12:15 says, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” God, it’s always easy to want more, but I’m asking You to show me what’s really going on underneath that desire, because none of it has ever satisfied the way You do. Your Word in Proverbs 15:16 says, “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble.” Help me tell the difference between enjoying a blessing and chasing after the next one. Give me a heart that’s content, and let my fullness come from time with You instead of anything that’ll be gone in a few months. Thank You for being the only One Who can give me everything I need. In Jesus’ Name, I worship You Amen.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Meaning

  • Godliness: Living a life of devotion, obedience, and alignment with God’s character rather than chasing selfish or worldly desires.
  • Contentment: An inner state of peace and satisfaction rooted in God’s provision rather than external circumstances or material accumulation.
  • Great Gain: True, lasting wealth. Paul contrasts spiritual wealth with the false promise of material riches.

Core Teachings

  • Redefining Wealth: The world measures profit by money, status, and possessions. The Bible teaches that true wealth is a heart satisfied in God, knowing that physical life is temporary (we bring nothing into the world and take nothing out).
  • Rejection of the Prosperity Gospel: This verse is often misused to claim that godliness guarantees financial or material success. Instead, Paul corrects false teachers who viewed religion as a means to personal financial profit.
  • Protection Against Greed: Immediately following this verse (1 Timothy 6:9โ€“10), Paul warns that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Contentment acts as a guard against the trap of endless materialism.
