As believers we NEED to know and understand what we have already recieved from God! Too often, we live in ignorance!
Spiritual ignorance of God’s Word leaves believers vulnerable to deception, weak faith, and missed promises, as famously warned in Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”.
what is your portion in Christ here on Earth
The biblical concept of having “your portion” in Christ means that God Himself is the believer’s ultimate inheritance, daily provider, and source of contentment rather than material wealth or earthly land.
Key Biblical Origins and Meaning
The Levitical Example: In the Old Testament (Numbers 18:20), the tribe of Levi received no physical land inheritance when Canaan was divided. God told them, “I am your portion and your inheritance,” meaning He would directly supply all their needs.
God as the Inheritance: Psalm 16:5 echoes this by stating, “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup”. To have a portion in Christ means looking past temporary worldly goods and finding total security in a relationship with Him.
Strength in Weakness: As written in Psalm 73:26, human flesh and hearts may fail, “but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever”.
Practical Meaning for Believers on Earth
Contentment Over Possessions: Believers rely on God’s grace, peace, and spiritual provision rather than seeking fulfillment exclusively through material status or wealth.
Co-Heirs with Christ: Through adoption into God’s family, Christians share in an eternal, unfading spiritual inheritance while living out their daily calling on Earth.
Ask God for wisdom: James 1:5 (NIV):
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you!”
Key Details
• Source: The New Testament book of James (James 1:5).
• God’s Promise: God gives wisdom generously and does not scold, shame, or find fault with people who ask.
• Condition (James 1:6–8): Believers are encouraged to ask in faith without doubting, rather than being double-minded or unstable
Consequences of Spiritual Ignorance
• Vulnerability to False Doctrine: Without grounding in Scripture, believers cannot easily discern truth from error or resist misleading philosophies (Ephesians 4:14).
• Weakened Faith: Romans 10:17 states that faith comes by hearing the Word of God; neglecting it leaves people unstable during trials.
• Loss of Direction: Psalm 119:105 describes God’s Word as a lamp to the feet; ignoring it leads to poor choices and spiritual darkness.
• Unclaimed Promises: Many live as though lacking peace, joy, and spiritual authority because they never learn what God has freely provided (2 Corinthians 2:11, Proverbs 11:9).
What Believers Have Received in Christ
According to the New Testament, believers do not start from a place of deficit, and God has equipped them with essential spiritual resources:
• The Holy Spirit: Granted to teach, comfort, and guide believers into all truth (John 14:26, John 16:13, 1 Corinthians 2:14).
• Full Identity and Standing: Complete forgiveness of sins, adoption into God’s family, and a renewed mind (Romans 12:2, Colossians 1:9–10).
• Spiritual Armor: Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation to stand firm against deception (Ephesians 6:11–18).
Practical Steps to Overcome Ignorance
• Daily Scripture Reading: Treat the Bible as daily nourishment rather than occasional reading.
• Intentional Meditation: Quietly reflect on and memorize passages to let them shape daily decisions (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1–3).
• Prayer for Insight: Ask God directly for a spirit of wisdom and revelation to truly know Him and His promises (Ephesians 1:17, James 1:5).
