Bear your cross!

A WHISPER FROM HEAVEN!

📌 Jesus’ cross was divinely planned to earn us a grace filled, Love directed eternity; not for decoration!

2 Timothy 4:10a states: “For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica” (ESV).

Key Details of the Verse:

The Desertor: Demas, who was previously a trusted co-laborer and companion of the Apostle Paul (mentioned in Colossians 4:14 and Philemon 1:24).

The Motive: He loved “this present world” (secular comfort, safety, or material pursuits) more than continuing in the hardships of Paul’s ministry.

The Action: He “deserted” or “forsaken” Paul during the apostle’s imprisonment in Rome when Paul needed support the most.

The Destination: He left for Thessalonica.

Context and Discussion

Spiritual Status: Opinions are mixed on StackExchange regarding whether Demas completely lost his salvation or simply abandoned Paul out of fear and weariness, much like John Mark did earlier in his journey.

Contrasting Companions: Right after mentioning Demas, Paul notes that Crescens went to Galatia, Titus went to Dalmatia, and only Luke remained with him in Rome.

Demas a former disciple of Paul, dropped his fellowship with Paul, at a point to pursue his lust for the world. Conversely, it’s sufferings that make some of us deny or twist the truth to accommodate our pleasures. Sound familiar? No one is exempt, we are all guilty of this in different ways!

We drop the cross whenever we place other things above the will of God. Of course, we do it daily, consciously or unconsciously; every little bit of hypocrisy and selfish choices count toward this… Are you pictured here?

Reflection: No cross, no purpose and we are not qualified/justified for eternal life!

The truth? Jesus earned us the life of God on the cross; we need to bear our own crosses daily to please God, fulfill our purposes and secure eternity, it may be painful but the grace of God helps us… So, pray for it!

Dear God, thank You for Your abundant, unmerited grace in my life that I do not deserve, yet freely receive.

A Prayer for God’s Grace

  • For Daily Guidance and Strength: “Lord, I need Your daily grace. Yesterday’s blessings encourage me, but I need Your strength for today’s burdens. Help me to walk as Your child, dissolving my fears through faith and Your Love.”
  • In Times of Weakness:  “Father, when I feel overwhelmed or tempted to rely only on my own efforts, remind me that Your grace is sufficient. Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Carry me through this difficult season.”
  • For Forgiveness and a Humble Heart: “Forgive me for the times I get too busy or proud to notice Your hand at work. Humble my heart, open my eyes to Your daily blessings, and teach me to extend the same grace and forgiveness to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Shalom.🙏🔥
