In theological contexts, particularly within Christianity, this is the core of the crucifixion narrative: Jesus Christ, believed to be entirely without sin, executed on a Roman cross alongside criminals. From a philosophical or narrative standpoint, it represents the deepest possible subversion of fairness, where the innocent bears the ultimate penalty.
Essentially, the Bible is a textbook of comebacks! Imagine this: crucifixion was reserved for the worst of the worst! To ensure that the punishment was final, they checked for life, and broke the legs of the two criminals hung on crosses with Jesus!
The Gospel of John (John 19:31-33).
According to the biblical narrative, this act was not done to check for life, but rather to hasten the deaths of the individuals on the crosses. In Roman crucifixion, breaking the victims’ legs (a practice known in Latin as crurifragium) prevented them from pushing themselves up to breathe, leading to rapid suffocation.
The account states that the soldiers broke the legs of the two men crucified alongside Jesus. However, when they came to Jesus, they found he was already dead, so they did not break his legs. Christians view this as a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy (such as Psalm 34:20), which states that none of the Messiah’s bones would be broken.

Five key characteristics of Ruth from the Bible are loyalty, hardworking spirit, humility, courage, and faithfulness.
- Loyalty (Devotion): Ruth showed deep commitment to her mother-in-law, Naomi, leaving her own homeland of Moab and declaring that Naomi’s people and God would be her own.
- Hardworking Spirit (Diligence): She worked tirelessly in the fields from morning until evening gleaning leftover grain to provide food for both of them.
- Humility: She willingly performed low-status work as a foreigner and accepted guidance and grace from Boaz and Naomi without a sense of entitlement.
- Courage: She bravely stepped into an unfamiliar culture and took calculated risks, such as approaching Boaz at the threshing floor, to secure a future for her family.
- Faithfulness and Trust in God: She anchored her actions in a quiet trust in God’s provision, moving from grief and uncertainty into a life of obedience and divine favor.
