Main Bible Verse :
“Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father who Loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope in grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.”
2 Thessalonians 2:16–17
Introduction
Good day, beloved. Thank you for coming back for the second day of our fasting prayer. Maybe your stomach is empty and your body is tired. But your spirit is awake, and heaven has noticed your hunger for God.
Yesterday we learned that faith grows under pressure. Today we learn how to stay standing while the pressure is still on. The Thessalonians were not only suffering. They were also confused. Some voices told them frightening things. Some said the Lord’s return had already happened, and that they had been left behind. Their hearts were shaken. Their minds were troubled.
Does this sound familiar? Today the world is full of loud voices: bad news, rumours, fear, and worry about tomorrow. Many believers are shaken, not by big enemies, but by small whispers: “God has forgotten you. It is too late. Nothing will change.”
But Paul brings a different word. He says God Himself will comfort your heart and establish you. The word “establish” means to make firm, like a house built on rock. Open heavens are not only about miracles from above. They are also about strength from within. Today, let God steady your heart. Let His peace be louder than every fearful voice. You will not be shaken.
1: Do Not Let Your Mind Be Shaken
Paul speaks to a worried church with a loving, steady voice.
2 Thessalonians 2:2 — “that you not be quickly shaken in your mind, nor be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ is already here.”
The enemy loves to attack the mind first. Before he touches your body, your home, or your work, he tries to shake your thoughts. He whispers, “You are alone.” He repeats, “It will never get better.” He wants you to be “quickly shaken”, jumping up in panic at every rumour.
But see what God asks of us: do not be quickly shaken, and do not be troubled. This is not cold advice. It is an invitation to rest. Jesus said the same to His disciples: do not let your heart be troubled. God knows your mind is precious. He wants it calm, clear, and filled with truth.
How do we guard our minds? First, we listen to God’s Word more than to the news. Second, we pray before we panic. Third, we refuse to believe every report that does not agree with God’s promise. Fasting helps us here, because when we put down the plate, we pick up the Word. We turn our eyes away from the noise and toward Jesus.
Some of you have been lying awake at night with racing thoughts. Today, give those thoughts to God. Say, “Lord, I will not be quickly shaken. My mind belongs to You.” Peace does not come when every problem is solved. Peace comes when you know the One who holds every problem in His hands. Let His peace guard you today.
2: Chosen from the Beginning
Why can we stand firm? Because our standing does not depend on how strong we feel. It depends on how deeply God has loved us.
2 Thessalonians 2:13–14 — “But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth; to which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Read those words slowly: “brothers loved by the Lord.” Before you ever prayed, you were loved. Before you ever failed, you were chosen. God did not find you by accident. He called you through the Good News, and He is leading you toward glory.
Many of us feel shaken because we think our faith depends on us. We think, “If I fail, God will leave me.” But your salvation is held by His hand, not by your grip. A child who is carried by his father does not fear the river. You are carried by your Father.
This truth opens heaven over your identity. You are not a mistake. You are not an orphan. You are chosen, loved, and called. When the enemy says, “Who are you to ask God for anything?” you can answer, “I am a child of the King, chosen from the beginning.”
Someone here today feels rejected by family, by friends, by a church, or by a past decision. Hear the Father say, “I chose you. I still choose you.” Let that love root you deep. A tree rooted in love is not blown away by wind. Stand in your identity today and let thankfulness rise from your heart.
3: Hold On and Be Established
Now comes the call to action, and the promise that makes it possible.
2 Thessalonians 2:15 — “So then, brothers, stand firm, and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word or by letter.”
To stand firm means to hold on to what you were taught: the Word of God, the faith, the simple truth of the Gospel. When storms come, do not invent new ideas. Go back to what you know. Jesus died for you. Jesus rose. Jesus loves you. Jesus is coming again. Hold on to that.
But we cannot do this alone, and Paul knows it. So he prays again.
2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 — “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope in grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.”
See what the Father gives: “eternal comfort” and “good hope.” Not a small comfort that disappears by morning, but eternal comfort. Not wishful thinking, but a good hope anchored in grace. Then He “establishes” us. He makes us steady in our work, our words, and our walk.
So in these days of fasting, do not only ask for an easy life. Ask to be established. Ask for a heart that is firm when the news is bad, strong when the test is long, and soft when others hurt. Heaven opens over those who stand. Hold on, beloved. The One who called you is faithful, and He will finish what He started.
Self-Examination Time
Let us become quiet before the Lord. Take a deep breath. God is near, and He loves us. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to show us where we have been shaken.
- What fear is shaking my mind today? What have I been believing that God has not said?
- Have I let rumours, bad news, or other people’s opinions rule my heart?
- Have I stopped reading my Bible and praying because I was tired or discouraged?
- Do I doubt that God has chosen me and loves me?
- Is there anything I am holding on to more than I hold on to God: money, a person, a plan, my reputation?
- Have I been quickly angry, quickly afraid, or quickly hopeless?
- Is there a promise of God that I have stopped believing?
Galatians 5:1 — “Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”
If you see areas of weakness, do not feel ashamed. Weakness is where grace begins. Say softly, “Lord, I have been shaken. I give You my fears. Forgive me for trusting rumours more than Your Word. Establish my heart again.” Wait quietly. Let the peace of Christ settle over you like a warm blanket. You are forgiven, and you can begin again.
Altar Call
Beloved, there is a place in your life where you have been falling, and you are tired of falling. Maybe you want to stand firm in your marriage, your faith, your health, your calling, or your own mind. Jesus is stretching out His hand to you right now.
Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.”
He does not say, “Come when you are strong.” He says, “Come when you are tired.” If you feel shaken today, I invite you to come forward, or to stand where you are. Let us pray for you. If you want to give your life to Jesus for the first time, come. If you want to return to Him after drifting away, come. If you want God to establish your heart again, come.
Do not wait for a better day. This is the day. The heavens are open over those who humble themselves. Come, and let the Lord lift you up.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come to You tired and shaken. I give You my fears, my worries, and my broken heart. Comfort me with Your eternal comfort. Give me good hope. Establish me in every good work and word. Hold me firm, and never let me go. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Deliverance Session and Prayer
Beloved, the enemy loves to shake God’s children with fear, confusion, and anxiety. But Jesus has already given us authority. We do not beg the enemy. We command him, in the name of Jesus, to leave.
James 4:7 — “Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Galatians 5:1 — “Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”
We are not slaves to fear. Christ has made us free. Today, if you have been bound by anxiety, panic, confusion, restless nights, torment in your mind, or a heavy cloud that follows you, we will pray together. Place your hand over your heart or your head, and pray boldly in faith:
Prayer of Deliverance:
Heavenly Father, I stand on Your Word today. You are my Lord, and I belong to You.
Spirit of fear, anxiety, and panic: I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ. You have no place in my mind. Go now.
Spirit of confusion and torment: I command you to leave. My mind is covered by the blood of Jesus.
Every lie the enemy has told me, that I am forgotten, rejected, or hopeless: I reject it. I am chosen, I am loved, and I am called.
Every chain of anxiety and sleepless nights: be broken now. I receive the peace of Christ that passes understanding.
Every voice that shakes my faith: be silent in Jesus’ name. I will not be quickly shaken. I will stand firm in the liberty Christ has given me.
Holy Spirit, fill my mind with truth. Fill my heart with eternal comfort and good hope. Establish me. I am free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Take a deep breath. Breathe out the fear. Breathe in His peace. Say aloud three times: “I am free. I am established. I am loved.” Do not pick up what you have just put down. Walk away lighter, because the Son has set you free.
Before we leave this place of prayer, let us close every door the enemy has used. Fear often enters through what we watch, what we hear, and what we keep repeating in our minds. So make a decision today. Decide to fill your eyes and ears with good things: God’s Word, worship, and godly friends. Now pray:
Heavenly Father, I close every door of fear in my life. I open my heart to Your peace. Let Your Word be the first voice I hear in the morning and the last voice I hear at night. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now place your hand on your shoulder and say: The Lord is my shepherd. I will not be afraid.
Some of you have carried anxiety for years. Today, let it end. God did not give you a spirit of fear. He gave you love, power, and a sound mind. Receive that gift. Say, Thank You, Father, my mind is at rest.
Encourage One Another
Before we finish, let us do what God’s family does best: carry each other. Someone near you is more tired than they look. Someone is afraid of tomorrow and has not told anyone. You do not have to fix them. You only have to stand beside them.
Galatians 6:2 — “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
There is a quiet power in saying, “I am here with you.” Think of a friend, a parent, a child, or a colleague who is shaken today. Send them a message after this prayer. Tell them, “I prayed for you. God has not forgotten you. You will stand.” Your words may be the very comfort they asked God for in the night.
If you are the one who feels weak, do not hide. Let another believer pray with you. It is not shame to be carried. Even Jesus was helped on the road by another man’s shoulders. When we hold one another up, heaven bends low to see the beauty of the Church.
Now stretch out your hand toward those around you, or toward the names in your heart, and pray with me:
Heavenly Father, thank You that we are one family. Strengthen the shaken, comfort the weary, and lift up the fallen among us. Teach us to carry each other’s burdens with love and patience. Make our homes and our church places of peace. Let every person who comes near us feel Your comfort and Your hope. Establish us all in every good work and word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer Session
Let us lift our voices together. Pray each point aloud, with thankfulness and faith.
- Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me and loving me from the beginning.
- Lord, I will not be quickly shaken. Guard my mind and my heart with Your peace.
- Comfort every heart here with Your eternal comfort. Give us good hope.
- Establish me in every good work and every good word. Make me steady and strong.
- Open the heavens over my family. Strengthen every home that is struggling tonight.
- Give me strength to hold on to Your Word when the storm is loud.
- Thank You, Jesus, because You are faithful. I trust You with my tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Word of Encouragement
My dear brother, my dear sister, you may feel shaken today, but you are not forsaken. The One who loved you before time began is holding you now. Your tears have not gone unseen, and your prayers have not been lost. Lift up your head. Stand firm. Heaven is leaning close, and God is about to do something beautiful in your life.
Let me say one more thing to the one who feels tired of being strong. Maybe everyone depends on you. You are the one who holds the family together, who gives advice, who always says, “I am fine.” But tonight you are not fine, and you are afraid to say it.
Beloved, you can lay your armor down here. God does not need you to be strong all the time. He wants you to be honest and near. Jesus Himself wept. He knows what it is to be sorrowful, and He is never ashamed of your tears.
Think of a little child who wakes from a bad dream and runs to her father’s bed. She does not explain. She just climbs up, and her father holds her until she falls asleep. That is how God holds you tonight. You do not need the right words. You only need to come close.
So rest your head on His chest. Let Him carry what is too heavy. Let His peace settle in your heart like a quiet evening. You have been so brave, and He is so proud of you. Tomorrow will be brighter, because He is already there. You are loved. You are held. You will stand. Amen. God bless you abundantly.
