Not a country! But an endless temple filled with God’s glory!!! This is where I am headed in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible describes heaven as a real, physical, and spiritual dwelling place of God, often depicted through the imagery of a heavenly city, a kingdom, a home, and a renewed creation.
Physical and Architectural Features
- The New Jerusalem: The Book of Revelation describes the holy city coming down from God out of heaven as a brilliant, glowing metropolis (Revelation 21:2).
- Streets of Gold: The streets of the city are made of pure gold, described as transparent or clear like glass (Revelation 21:21).
- Gates of Pearl: The city features twelve gates, with each individual gate made out of a single large pearl (Revelation 21:21).
- Precious Stone Walls: The walls of the city are built from and adorned with costly, precious stones like jasper, sapphire, emerald, and amethyst (Revelation 21:18–20).
- No Sun or Moon Needed: The city requires no natural light from the sun or moon because the glory of God and the Lamb (Jesus Christ) illuminate it continuously (Revelation 21:23).
Environment and Life Inside
- River of Life: A pure, crystal-clear river of the water of life flows directly from the throne of God and the Lamb down the middle of the main street (Revelation 22:1).
- Tree of Life: Growing on both sides of the river is the tree of life, which bears fruit every month and has leaves meant for the healing of the nations (Revelation 22:2).
- Absence of Suffering: God wipes away all tears, and there is no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
- Dwellings and Mansions: Jesus tells his disciples that in his Father’s house are many “mansions” or dwelling places prepared for believers (John 14:2).
The Three Heavens in Biblical Context
In traditional biblical language (reflected in the KJV and Hebrew/Greek concepts), the word “heaven” is used in three distinct ways:
- The First Heaven: The atmospheric sky surrounding the earth where birds fly and clouds gather (Genesis 1:8).
- The Second Heaven: Outer space, containing the sun, moon, and stars.
- The Third Heaven: The hidden, transcendent dwelling place of God and His throne (often called Paradise or the “third heaven” in 2 Corinthians 12:2).
