And we thank God for the day passed…

Dear God, thank You for bringing me through another day. As I get ready to rest tonight, I’m thinking about how many times I let little things make me feel negative instead of trusting You. Your Word in Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” God, tomorrow I want to be someone who walks with that scripture in my heart instead of just reacting to whatever happens. Help me let go of the moments today that I responded out of pressure instead of purpose, and give me a fresh start when I wake up. I trust that my mindset can be rooted in You rather than what I’m going through. I give this night to You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

The steadfast Love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Context and Meaning

  • Author and Setting: The book of Lamentations is traditionally attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, written during or shortly after the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.
  • Themes of Grief and Hope: The book begins with deep sorrow, mourning, and the feeling of utter abandonment. Right in the middle of this chapter of deep distress, the writer pivots to remember God’s character.
  • New Every Morning: The verses emphasize that despite human failure, suffering, or dark circumstances, God’s mercy is not a one-time gift; it is continually renewed with the start of each day.
