Recognizing your sins against God!

Psalm 51:9–11 (KJV) is a prayer of repentance written by king David after his sin with Bathsheba:

Text (KJV)

  • Verse 9: “Hide Thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities.”
  • Verse 10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.”
  • Verse 11: “Cast me not away from Thy Presence; And take not Thy holy spirit from me.”

Key Meaning & Context

  • Authorship & Background: David wrote this psalm after the prophet Nathan confronted him regarding his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband, Uriah.
  • Verse 9 (Pardon): David asks God to turn away from his wrongdoing and completely erase the record of his guilt.
  • Verse 10 (Transformation): He recognizes that outward moral reform is not enough; he needs an internal renewal and a fresh, right disposition created by God.
  • Verse 11 (Relationship): Reflecting on the loss of God’s favor (such as what happened to king Saul), David pleads to remain in close communion with God and not to have the Holy Spirit withdrawn from him.
